Boston Bruins win their first Stanley Cup in New York City.

The Bruins beat the Rangers 2-0 at Madison Square Garden to sweep the three-game series and win the team’s first National Hockey League Championship in the first series involving two U.S. teams. The Bruins subsequently begin the practice of hanging championship banners from the rafters of Boston Garden.
